Recently, around 30 school career advisers from Porsgrunn and Bamble/Kragerø visited the industrial park at Herøya. They met with several companies that take on apprentices, including Bilfinger, Yara, and Caverion.

A deeper ingsight

Organised by Telemark Elektroopplæring and Industrilærling Vestfold Telemark, the visit aimed to give advisers deeper insight into industrial career opportunities, training schemes, and apprenticeship pathways, at companies such as Bilfinger, Yara, and Caverion, enabling advisers to make valuable contacts.
The advisers had the opportunity to meet apprentices and learn about their experiences.

High-tec careers

Industries in the Grenland region are highly technology-driven, offering training across a wide range of disciplines, with Bilfinger providing apprenticeships in 18 different trades.
Over half of Telemark’s apprentices are trained in Grenland’s industrial sector, particularly at Herøya, highlighting the region’s importance as a 'factory for apprentices'.

Currently, Telemark has signed 94 apprenticeship contracts, with numbers expected to rise further.

Importance of HSE

A strong focus was placed on workplace attitudes and health, safety and environment (HSE) practices, which are critical to the industry.

Bilfinger, a major employer, stressed the importance of good attitudes, low absenteeism, and strong HSE awareness among apprentices.
