Nel invests at Herøya

Nel ASA has decided to industrialise its next-generation pressurised alkaline platform, with production to be located at Herøya.

The company has taken the final investment decision to move forward with the industrialisation, strengthening Herøya’s role as a key hub for Nel’s technology development.

According to a company press release, the new platform will enable lower costs, higher efficiency and improved scalability for large-scale production of green hydrogen. The investment at Herøya marks a strategic shift for Nel. By consolidating production at a single site, the company can leverage existing expertise and infrastructure, while also reinforcing Norway’s position as a leading player in green industry.

The investment forms part of Nel’s long-term strategy to meet growing global demand for sustainable energy solutions and to contribute to the green transition.

An ambitious decision

“We are very pleased that Nel has taken a clear and ambitious investment decision to continue and expand production at Herøya, and that this initiative is being supported by the EU through the Innovation Fund,” says Sverre Gotaas, CEO of Herøya Industripark AS.

“The decision underlines Nel’s leading position in hydrogen and electrolyser technology and confirms Herøya’s and the region’s role at the forefront of developing new, sustainable industry.
