The funding of € 135 million will be used to develop and scale up next-generation pressurised alkaline electrolysers. The technology is currently at the prototype stage, with plans for industrialisation at Herøya, Norway.
Develop future technologies
Nel states in a press release that they continue to maximise the full potential of their current technology while developing future solutions to help customers reduce the cost of green hydrogen.
"This funding will make it significantly easier for us to bring our new, innovative pressurised alkaline technology to market," says Nel's CEO, Håkon Volldal.
Strengthening the region's position
“We are very pleased that the EU is supporting the industry at Herøya and in the region,” says Sverre Gotaas, CEO of Herøya Industripark AS.
“This demonstrates that we are at the forefront of developing new, sustainable technologies, and it strengthens the region’s position as a hub for green industry. The support from the EU’s Innovation Fund is not only a recognition of Nel’s work but also an important investment in future growth and value creation for the entire region."
