Apprentices are continuing to flock to TEK subjects, and in Telemark, demand for apprenticeships is especially high in Grenland. The industry views this development very positively, seeing the growing enthusiasm as a promising sign for future recruitment.
Vital for the industry’s future
Industrilærling Vestfold and Telemark, a training office approved in 30 different disciplines, plays a crucial role in facilitating vocational training for the region’s companies.
Ranveig Furuvald, head of Industrilærling Vestfold and Telemark, underscores the importance of apprentices for the future of the industry.
"This year’s intake was higher than in 2023, thanks to the many strong candidates we received. This shows that interest in technology and industrial subjects is not only high, but that the calibre of applicants is continually improving," says Furuvald.
In the autumn of 2024, 70 new apprentices began their training at Herøya. Of these, 50 chose TEK subjects and 20 selected Electrical subjects. In total, the process industry in Grenland has taken on 100 apprentices, with the largest intakes at Bilfinger, Yara, and the INEOS plants.
Furuvald explains that this positive trend has given companies even greater confidence to invest in apprentices as part of their recruitment strategy.
